A restaurant review of a pretty solid second date spot: Simeon's in Ithaca NY.

In my freshman year, my roommate brought home a cup of olives, telling us they were from a place called Simeon's. They were perfect - flavorful, oily, seasoned with rosemary and orange peel. In the hallway of Low Rise 7, I found myself looking up the menu to see what they had.
Those olives were $14.
So it took a gift card from my father two years later for me to go to Simeon's with a date. Simeon's knows they're expensive, and they know you know it too. You might as well get what you want.
White Peach Sangria: Not sangria at all. The first half did not taste amazing, the second half tasted pretty good. A very big glass with 3 kinds of alcohol in it was not exactly what I was expecting, but it was perfectly fine. And really good when I had part of the mint leaf with it.
The Big Dip: Excellent. I wish they would have separated the chips and crostini, just because the latter ended up buried, but that's just such a good problem to have.
Bistro Plateau (pictured above!): The last time I had oysters, the restaurant had olive oil to put in them, and I found myself missing that here. Salty Mariners by far the best (aka the biggest), would just get those next time. The lobster was wonderful and the shrimp were shrimp. I liked all the sauces, but the horseradish was incredibly strong.
Overall, Simeon's was a very nice time. Maybe it was the company, but the food was pretty good too and I certainly felt the atmosphere. I don't see myself ever being comfortable paying for this kind of meal myself, especially on the budget of a college student, but it's a very good free meal!
